Initially focusing on the design, fabrication and installation of monopole type steel masts for the lighting industry, the company was one of the first suppliers to design and manufacture steel monopole type structures for microwave links to South Africa post office in the 80s.
In 2001,Lighting Structures was sold to LeBLANC Communications,an international telecommunications company registered in Singapore, which wanted to establish a footprint in Africa.
The manufacturing facility in Nigel is located on a 10000sqm site with 3.500sqm covered factory area. The company has continued to see strong growth in its traditional market sector across Africa and it is estimates that the company has 40% market share.
The future looks even more promising and extremely encouraging due to South African governments continued infrastructures spend over the next few years, as the sizeable bulk of this expenditure is earmarked for our core clients.
LeBLANC does the engineering and design, fabrication, logistics and installation of its products, which include: railow masts, mid-hinge masts hydro masts; access masts; street lighting poles; supports for solar structures; monopoles masts, as well as a range of self-supporting tubular lattice structures. Current projects include; King Shaka Airport, various training facilities for the 2010 FIFA World cup, upgrade of Telkoms antenna support structure, the road infrastructures upgrade (SANRAL) and various access masts for sport stadiums.
One key differentiator that the company has over competitors is its people, the company employs about 60 staff of which 50 are long serving. Some of them from as far back as the companys beginnings in 1976 and the company traditionally has a low staff turnover. The company also has a management succession planning strategy in place.
In the short to medium term Lighting Structures will follow a market penetration strategy with a major focus on quality and service delivery to achieve its objectives. In early 80s the company annual turnover was approximately R 2.5m, while revenue for 2009 is expected to exceed R 70m.
We are also set to benefit from our alliance with WebbLeBLANC Communication a Jasco/CIH company which is a leader in the supply of self supporting angular tubular lattice structures to the telecommunications industry.
