With many contenders for the bid, ABL Emirates emerged the preferred choice for
the project for various reasons including competitive pricing and a reputation for
being a quality and specialized manufacturer of Telecommunication Structures in
the region.
Etisalat, the prominent telecommunication services provider in the region, directed for the contract.
Being a part of the project ABL Emirates will be designing, manufacturing, galvanizing and supplying 3 Camouflage Telecommunication Structures for motor sports racing track at YAS Island.

The objective was to backhaul 7 BTS sites located on Tana Island back to the Port-Vila MSC, situated on Emae Island. Between these two islands was Erromango Island, situated 140km from Emae and around 80Km from Tana Island. Digicel chose to backhaul the 7 BTS from Tana through 2 microwave links: one working on 7GHz between Tana and Erromango and the second one, on 5.8GHz between Erromango and Port-Vila.
There was skepticism about a working 144km link over the water, and the biggest concern of having only around 2-3m clearance over the water surface. Anyway, with no VSAT in country and the approaching network launch, it seemed to be the only solution to backhaul the 7 BTS?s from Tana Island.
The logistics was a nightmare, since on Erromango Island the infrastructure is nonexistent: no roads, no electricity, and no transportation. The equipment was shipped to Erromango Island by boat and a helicopter was used to transport the equipment from the bottom of the hill to the top.
The installation of the antenna mounts and 3m MW antennas on the tower was relatively easy due to 3 days without wind and the dishes were installed on the tower using ropes, pulley and local workforce.
We were not so lucky with the weather in Port-Vila: windy weather. After a week of waiting for better weather, we decide to try to lift up the first 3m MW dish. Due to strong wind, after we lifted half way we decided to bring it down. Fortunately the next day the wind calmed down and we put both 3m dishes in place.
With the antenna system in place, the Motorola PTP 600 installed and commissioned it was time to start the alignment of the link. The communication between Erromango and Port-Vila had to been done through a pair of satellite phones provided by Digicel and a connection was found relatively quickly.
After another 2 days of fine tuning we got maximum receive level on the system and the link was up and running, ready for network launch. Digicel used the link to backhaul the 7 BTS from Tana for some time before finally later installing a VSAT link due to increased stability.

The design of the masts and concrete foundations and the assembly and erection of the masts including all electrical equipment in the masts.
The installation comprised of fifty Railow type masts and housing 6 x 1000 watt light fittings per mast.
The civil work alone was a huge challenge as the mast had to erected on four different sites. The soil conditions was also extremely poor as some of the foundations had to be excavated up to four times in different locations in order to obtain acceptable soil bearing capacity.
The forty meter masts were transported by road in batches of five masts per load to site. The masts were assembled with all the internal electrics and light fittings next to each perspective foundation with out any welding done on site.
The masts were lifted with a 30 ton hydraulic type mobile crane.
This project was one of the biggest single orders placed on Lighting Structures for the same product by one client.

The refurbishment of an 85 meter high Broadcast Guyed lattice mast at our factory, the construction of mast and anchor block foundations and the erection of the mast.
The guyed lattice mast after being taken down at a decommissioned site was transported to our works and completely refurbished including stripping of paint and regalvanising and the supply of new guy ropes, antenna mounting steelwork and associated equipment.
The site is situated on a mountain outside the village of Rhodes in the Eastern Cape and the site is at an altitude of some 2500 meters above sea level.
The mast sections were transported with heavy vehicles to the village and then in small vehicles up a treacherous mountain pass to the site.
The foundations for the mast and anchor blocks were cast after extensive blasting of the holes in solid rock with all concrete being mixed on site after all the materials were moved in small loads up the mountain pass.
The erection of the mast was done in sections using rigging poles and electric winches powered by diesel generators.
The erection of the mast took many weeks due to work being continuously halted by extreme weather conditions including, winds in excess of 100 Km per hour being a regular occurrence and continual mist covering the mountain.
The installation work included the erection of the television broadcast antennas and feeder cables.
The planning and logistics involved in the work were extreme and required experienced and skilled personal working under very difficult conditions.

The design of the masts and concrete foundations and the assembly and erection of the masts including all electrical equipment in the masts.
The installation comprised of five internal access Monopole type masts with the tallest mast having a height of 67 metres and housing 130 floodlights.
The masts were fabricated as 12 sided continuously tapered structures fitted with internal ladders, working platforms and crossarm assemblies for the mounting of floodlights.
The masts, after being transported in sections for a distance of some 1600 kilometres from our factory to the site, were assembled on the ground without any welding being done on site and finally erected making use of 350 ton and 80 ton mobile hydraulic cranes in a tandem lift.
The masts were completed equipped with the lights and all electrical equipment before being lifted into position.
The logistics involved in the installation were complex with the working space around the masts being very limited and the fact that no large cranes were available in the port city meant that the 350 Ton crane had to sent by ship from to the port and then by road to the site.
The masts were designed for the extreme wind conditions of the city of Cape Town and remain structurally sound after many years of use.

LeBLANC Communications Australia is contracted to provide maintenance and support to Boeing, acting on behalf of the Department of Defence.
LeBLANC Communications is specifically contracted to maintain the VLF antenna site located at Exmouth, although does provide additional infrastructure support where required.
There are 13 guyed masts located in Exmouth all forming a single antenna array. The tallest central mast being 387mtrs, known as ?Tower Zero?, 6 inner circle masts at 304mtrs and 6 outer circle masts at 364mtrs.
LeBLANC maintains a year wide maintenance programme as well as infrastructure upgrades, where required. The programme ensures the integrity and continued operations of the communications base.

LeBLANC offers hot dip galvanizing service to steel products for a long corrosion free life, ensuring long service life and eliminating disruptive maintenance of the product. It has the standard with ASTM-A12 and BS EN ISO-1461 which maintaining the zinc coating thickness 0.086 mm respectively.
We have full service hot-dip galvanizing facilities in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Malaysia and South Africa to serve the various regions across the globe. There are total 7 kettles in operation for a combined galvanizing capacity of 250,000 tons per year.
